 ANIMALS GLOSSARY 


1. To Mate


Definition: When animals reproduce by coming together to breed.


Example: "Lions mate during specific seasons."



2. Male / Female


Definition: The two biological sexes of animals.


Example: "A male peacock has colorful feathers, while the female does not."



3. To Rest / Nest


Definition:


To rest: To relax or sleep.


Nest: A structure built by birds and some animals for shelter or laying eggs.



Example: "Birds rest in their nests after a long day."



4. To Hunt


Definition: To search and kill other animals for food.


Example: "Tigers hunt at night to catch their prey."



5. To Graze


Definition: When herbivores eat grass or plants.


Example: "Cows graze in the fields all day."



6. To Roam


Definition: To move around freely without a fixed direction.


Example: "Wolves roam the forest in search of food."



7. To Feed / To Breed


Definition:


To feed: To give or find food.


To breed: To reproduce and have offspring.



Example: "Farmers feed the chickens so they can breed healthy chicks."



8. To Lay / To Hatch


Definition:


To lay: When birds or reptiles produce eggs.


To hatch: When a baby breaks out of an egg.



Example: "The hen lays eggs, and after 21 days, the chicks hatch."



9. Fangs


Definition: Sharp teeth used for biting, especially in predators.


Example: "Snakes use their fangs to inject venom."



10. Muzzle / Snout


Definition: The front part of an animal’s face, including the nose and mouth.


Example: "Dogs have a strong snout for smelling things."



11. Den / Shelter


Definition:


Den: A cave or hidden home for wild animals.


Shelter: A safe place for animals.



Example: "Bears sleep in their den during winter."



12. Prey / Predator


Definition:


Prey: An animal that is hunted and eaten.


Predator: An animal that hunts others.



Example: "A rabbit is prey, while a fox is a predator."



13. Cattle / Livestock


Definition: Farm animals raised for food or work.


Example: "Farmers take care of cattle to produce milk."



14. Herd


Definition: A large group of animals.


Example: "A herd of elephants crossed the river."



15. Tentacles


Definition: Long, flexible limbs found in sea animals like octopuses.


Example: "An octopus uses its tentacles to catch prey."



16. Fur


Definition: The thick hair covering some animals.


Example: "Cats have soft fur."



17. Shell


Definition: A hard outer covering for protection.

18. Fins


Definition: Flat structures that help fish swim.

19. Trunk

26. Horns / Antlers


Definition:


Horns: Permanent structures found in animals like bulls.


Antlers: Branch-like bones that grow and fall off in animals like deer.

27. Feathers

28. Spots


Definition: Small dots or patterns on an animal’s body.
