How to Use "Even," "Even Though," and "Even So"

1. Even (to emphasize something surprising or extreme)

"Even" is used to show that something is surprising, unexpected, or extreme. It adds emphasis.

• He didn’t call me, not even once.

2. Even though (to introduce a fact that makes something surprising)

• It means "despite the fact that" and is used to show contrast between two ideas.

Examples:

• Even though it was raining, they went for a walk.

• She kept smiling even though she was tired.

3. Even so (to introduce a surprising fact or situation despite what was just mentioned)

Sarah loves running. Even when it’s cold outside, she goes for a jog. Last weekend, it was pouring rain. Even though the weather was terrible, she put on her raincoat and ran five miles.
