Causative Verbs – Explanation


Causative verbs are used when someone causes another person to do something, or when something is caused to happen.


Main Causative Verbs:




Structures:


1. Have + object + past participle (for services)

→ I had my house painted.

(SOMEONE ELSE did the action)


2. Get + object + past participle (same meaning as "have")

→ She got her laptop fixed.


3. Make + object + base verb

→ The coach made us run five laps.


4. Let + object + base verb

→ They let me leave early.


5. Help + object + base verb / to + verb

→ He helped me solve the problem.

→ He helped me to solve the problem. (Both are correct!)

She got her phone repaired at the shop.


His parents made him clean his room.


The teacher let us use our phones.


He helped me carry the books.
